4 Books That Helped Transform My Mind & Cool My Anxiety

worry, anxiety, transform thoughts, book list

I have always been a “people-pleaser” and perfectionist. It’s not something I am proud of but let’s be honest- I don’t think I am alone.  This has led me to often feel as if I am not enough or inadequate.

In this world there is A LOT of noise and sometimes I find myself fixated on the lies of the world instead of the truths of my Heavenly Father. One way I have battled anxiety brought on by feeling “less than” is by reading. These 4 books have changed the direction of my thoughts and helped me learn a healthier way of thinking. They are also what helped give birth to LoveBELouder because we want to drown out the negative and recognize the Truth. I hope you find these books as helpful as I have.

#1-     Get Out of Your Head

        by Jennie Allen

In this book, Jennie Allen walks you through how to take your thoughts captive and focus on what is true. Many of us are prisoners of our own minds and those thoughts either keep us from being who we are meant to be or cause us to become stuck. It is an incredible resource to learn the basis of your thoughts, how to transform those thoughts, and how to shift your focus from toxicity to healthy. I do believe there is a war waged on our minds and we are believing far too many lies. This book is a beautiful place to start a change for you as well as your family. If you wanted to go on this journey with your friends, Jennie has an awesome study bundle that includes 6 sessions on DVD, a study guide, leader guide and conversation cards. My girlfriends and I are getting ready to do this study together and I can’t wait!

#2      Winning the War in Your Mind

          by Craig Groeschel

Again, far too many people are caught in the downward spiral of believing lies and patterns of negative thoughts. In Winning the War in Your Mind, Pastor Craig uses scientific information combined with the Word, to explain how our lives steer in the direction of our strongest thoughts. He gives practical ways to transform your thoughts, exercises to help shift your focus thought patterns, and guides you in making new affirmations to retrain your mind.

#3      Jesus Calling

          by Sarah Young

I am terrible at keeping up with devotions or daily reading when life gets busy which is why I LOVE this devotional. Each devotion has a day assigned to it but is not year specific. I keep it by my bedside or take it with me on long days and pick up where I left off or turn to that particular day. This devotional is packed with biblical truths and written as Jesus personally reminding you of those truths each and every day. There have been several instances where I opened to the devotion, and it spoke directly to events going on in my life. Such a great and quick reminder to keep Jesus in all that I do and have peace while doing it.

#4      Uninvited

          by Lysa TerKeurst

Lastly but certainly not least is Uninvited. Oh, I LOVE Lysa TerKeurst, and this book is just another example of how she uses her life experiences and brokenness to help others. She is incredibly raw and that is why I love her because, let’s face it, we are ALL broken in some way. In Uninvited, Lysa challenges you to base your self-worth on truths and who our Heavenly Father says you are instead of on circumstances, hurt or past experiences. If you are looking to study this topic with a group, it also comes with a powerful study series that includes six sessions on DVD and a study guide. You can also get additional study guides here.
